OBITUARY.
; MR. WILLIAM MARKWICK. ■ The., death -" occurred at Auckland recently of Mr. Williaim James Markiwiclc'at the age of- 78 years.' Mr. Mark-j fwick • came 'to New Zealand with, his wife" at the age of 23 in the sailing ship British Empire. ' He followed his occupation as a painter and decorator in ;A\ickJan'd fcir, some years and also spent some time on, the Thames and Waite'kauri goldfields.. Eventually, he took up residence at Otahuhu. He. is survived by his wife, six sons, -and one • daughter.
MR. JOHN ECCLES
An old resident of Auckland district; -Mr.' John: Eccles', died: at ' Whangarei, aged .:79 'years. HHe came ! to Auckland :with;'his v:parehts i iri j by the ship 'Nugget,! and in 1881. started a-business at Whangarei, which lie carried on until 1912; , He : was' a member ,of the Masonic fraternity, arid the oldest Oddfellow in .'the district, v He was: a prominent mover '.in the,-matter of securing a water •supply for Wliangarei. He is survived •by iMrs.- :Eccles; and tliree '■ sons,' Messrs.; Arthur; Frank, : tand-'Sydfa'cy .Eccles; who; All live-at. Whangarei. -■' - .
