FREEZING WORKS CONTROL.

MR. LYSNAR'S PROPOSALS.

ALTERATIONS BY COMMITTEE.

(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday.

The amendment of the Meat Control Act proposed by Mr. W. D. Lysnar (lud., Gisborne) has been returned from the Agricultural and Pastoral Committee with substantial alterations.

The committee has not interfered with Mr. Lysnar's suggestions that there shduld be a direct election of members of the Meat Control Board by those fattening stock for export, that Government representatives be excluded and that overseas companies be prohibited from acquiring further interest in N. ew Zealand freezing works. The committee has deleted the remainder of the bill, which seeks to enforce the sale to local companies by overseas companies of any freezing works owned by them, a clause being inserted as alternative that in case of any company, firm or person owning freezing works in New Zealand at the date of the passing of the bill, and while such works aro kept open for killing operations, such company shall undertake to receive, kill and handle all stock offering on an owner's account for charges and conditions approved by the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, which may from time to. time give general or special directions on this subject.
