PONSONBY CLUB'S SEASON,

Recent testimonials to . the Auckland Cricket Association's initiative in introducing indoor practice were further added to at the animal meeting of the Ponsonby Cricket Club last evening, when members voiced the opinion that a long-felt necessity had been coped with. Mr. I. Clarke presided over an attendance of 40 members. The gold modal for scoring the greatest number of runs for the season was awarded to S. G. Smith, who had 492 to his credit. Trophies for the best all-round performances in the respective grades were awarded as follows: —Senior cup, N. C. Sneddon ; junior cup, H. Warneford; Laidlaw Cup, J. Dale. Following were the officers elected: —■ President, Mr. I, Clarke; vice-presidents, same as last year, with the addition of Messrs. W. Hardley, Hiutz, Patterson, J. Schischka; delegates to Auckland Cricket Association, Messrs. N. C. Snedden, S. G. Smith, Pi Taylor; club captain, Mr. H. Warneford ; junior management ■ delegate, Mr. H. Warneford; selection committee, Messrs. H. Warneford, R. Sellars, S, G. Smith; management committee, 'Messrs. D. Cleverly, G. J. Brown, S. G. Smith, A. Clarke, Sellars, I. Piesse, 11. Sellars, N. C. Snedden; hon. auditor, Mr. P.-Taylor; lion, secretary, Mr. G. Lendrum; hon. treasurer, Mr. N. Lendrum.

NEW CLUB AT MOUNT ROSKILL.

For some time past the want of a cricket club hus been very seriously felt In the Mount Roskill district. Towards the close of last season a scratch team was got together which played a few friendly games and met with fair success. Accordingly, at a meeting held on August 11 last, it was resolved that a club, to be known as the Mount Roskill Cricket Club, should be formed, and that affiliation to the City and Suburban Cricket Association be sought. Officers and a. committee were appointed and instructed to go into ways and weanu of raising funds for the purchase of gear,, etc. Within, a month of th« iirst meeting, the club had sufficient members to warrant catering for two teams, but, as new members are still coming along, the prospects of entering three teams in the association's competition appear bright.

The club was very fortunate in being given the free use of a ground in Buckland Road which, without much trouble, can be made into a very line cricket ground. A wicket of Morrinsville. mixture has been laid down, and now the outlleld is receiving attention, eo that before the season opens the club will be equipped with a playing area.. Mrs. E. Hayr, an old and well known resident of Mount Roskill, is patroness oi! ■the club, and Mr. E. F. Jones, chairman of the Mount Roskill Road Board, is president, Xhe committee comprises the club captain, Mr. C. Anderson, lion, secretary, Mr. A. Donald, hon; treasurer, Mr. G. E. Gardiner, and Messrs. V. Dally and' A. P. McSkimming. The secrctary F s address is 9, Selwyn Road, Epsom. Membership i s not confined only to residents of the Mount Roskill district. Any who care may make application. The subscription for the season has been fixed at the low sum or 10/ per playing member with the addition of the registration fee payable to the Suburban Cricket Association.
