DISCOVERY BY NEIGHBOUR.

OLD MAN'S SHOCKING DEATH.

(By Telegraph.—.Own Correspondent.) PAPAEOA, this day. Charles John Sanderson, aged 73, employed by Mr. E. Bull, farmer, of Batlcy, near Maungaturoto, Avas found dead in bed yesterday afternoon. Tho bedclothes had evidently been on fire, and the old man was badly burned.

Tho elderly man was occupying the house of Messrs.' Bull Bros., who were temporarily away from home. A neighbour's son, Mi-. Harry Linton, went to tho house with the mail,' and found smoke emerging from Sanderson's room. There Avere no signs of a struggle. Mr. Linton extinguished the fire and rang for aid. It is surmised that a heart seizure or suffication may, have caused death. .■

An inquest was opened by the coroner (Mr. T. Healey), and after formal evidence had been taken, the proceedings were adjourned sine die. ,
