WHAT IS HE DOING?
A NOVEL COMPETITION. IN THE "AUCKLAND STAR." TRAINING OBSERVATION. A novel competition which will arouse more 'interest' among our readers than •cross-word puzzles or any other test of the reader's powers of observation and analysis will -begin 'in the "Auckland Star" on Friday, next. . On that day we will publish a photograph? the first of a series, of an incli-•vidual.at-work or play. - The background and other'features of. the snapshot will 'be eliminated, but the figure will remain as it appeared on the photographic plate. The reader will be asked to discover just what -the. subject was doing when the picture was taken—whether he was eating his dinner, riding to work in ear or tram, cleaning, his boots, and so on. There will be ample evidence in our photograph to show what was being done at the time, and the solver of the problem will have to decide, out of the many things which will occur to him, exactly what 'action was" being performed The is a tantalising and intriguing onej.it is., a test of observation and' 'intelligence, and as the competition proceeds' solvers will find their! interest' steadily growing. A prize of lOf will be offered with each problem, ■ All the solutions will" be opened at one time, and if more than One prove, correct the first- opened will be the prize-winner;, Precedence will not' be given to the order of reaching the office—the first, correct- solution acta-' ally ; opened, wiirtakb .theprize. If no competitor arrives at, the ..exact solution the pnfce will be awarded to'the entrant whose: description, riii.the ,opinion of the editor, is nearest*, the correct answer to the problem. Thus every: prize must be won. 6 " v. ' ■ Solutions .must be- addressed— . ' . 1 .Picture 'Puzzle, . : '"Star" Office, ' ■ Auckland. and must be clearly written, on the coupon appearing/below the problem. Only one solution may appear on each coupon, ' but there is .110 restriction on the number which any 'person may send in. >
