WAITAKI POWER DAM.
FOUNDATIONS DEFECTIVE ?
QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT.

WELLINGTON, Thursday.
A rumour that a portion of the rock foundations of the hydro-electric dam at Waitaki had been' found defective was mentioned in an urgent question in the House to-day by Mr. T. A. Macpherson (Oamaru), who aaked the Minister of Public AVorks if he would Allay any public uneasiness and prevent recurrence of such a trouble as occurred at Arapuni by securing a report and some advice fi-omy. Professor P. G. Hbrnell, the Swedish .engineer.
The Hon. W. B. Taverner replied that he had not heard the rumour, nor had he received advice to that effect from the district engineer. "So far as I am aware," he added, "everything is all right at Waitaki." He 'had already arranged for Professor'Hornell to report on this scheme ae well as the Waikaremoana undertaking.
