WANGANUI GALLOPS.

HORSES FOR MARTON.

APPLEDORE IS IMPROVING

ZARENE IN GOOD FETTLE,

(By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.")

WANGANUI, Thursday,

Local training operations this morning were carried out in dull but fine weather. The outside of the course proper was open for fast work. W. Rayner gave Ceremony, Pomp and Pedestal pace work on the plough, while Solange ran half a mile in 52s on No. 2 track on which Auctioneer put in good pace work. . After breakfast Appledore and Vertigern cantered round on the plough and then sprinted five furlongs on the course proper, running tho distance in 1.6 2-5, and doing it nicely. Appledore. appears to be improving with every gallop. Arvada and Jackplane were companions in a half-mile flutter, registering 52 4-ss. Paratoo, Grecian and Count Palatine went six furlongs together. They were not extended in the early part, but finislied fast and w.ere in line, the time being 1.21. Zarene ran three furlongs by herself in '38,3-ss, going very smoothly. She is in. good fettle. Fernden, Hinewai, Danny Boy and a number of others were given pace work. Just an Idea was worked on the lead. He appears to have thrown off the soreness in the. shoulder which has kept him on the easy list for some time. W. D. Moroney intends taking Baskier, Cluney, Appledore and Tenter" den to, Marton on Saturday, though if the going is heavy the two last named are unlikely to start.
