THE MARTON MEETING.

A ONE-DAY FIXTURE.

PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW

THE FIELDS RE-VIEWED.

The spring meeting of the Marton Jockey Club will be held to-morrow, and. a good deal of interest will centre in the fixture, for many horses arc engaged who will subsequently be participating in more important fixtures during the next few weeks. Excellent fields are carded and the racing should be good throughout. The Txial Plate.

As the Trial Plate is for horses that have not won a flat race of the value of 2550v3 at the time of starting, the- public will not have much form to guide them. Pat's Boy ran second in the Oroua Plate, six furlongs, to Coon Song at the Manawatu meeting and is a promising sort. Wild Country finished third in the Sylvia Handicap, seven furlongs, at the recent Pakuranga meeting, and has been, going along all right in her work since then. Imamint only started on three occasions last season as a two-year-old, finishing second in the Avondale Stakes and third in the Welcome Stakea at Ellerslie. She has plenty of pace. Pandia was third in the Oroua Plate, six furlongs, at the Manawatu winter meeting to Coon Song and Pat's Boy and occupied a similar position in the Milsoni Handicap to Sporting Chance and Abbey Queen. She should also go well. Nightmare was second in the Maiden Race, five furlongs, at Dannevirke, while Appledore was in the money on three occasions as a two-year-old last season. The public may. fancy WILD COUNTRY • PAT'S BOY . ■ IMAMINT. The Rata Huraies. Disrank showed up well as a hurdler at the recent Manawatu meeting, winning the Rongotea .Hurdles and the Longburn Hurdles, and he is now topweight with 10.7 in the Rata Hurdles tomorrow. If at his best he should again be hard to beat. Make Up ran well over hurdles at the recent Wellington winter meeting, being second to Avro in the Corunna Hurdles and occupying a , similar position to Daylight in the Talavera . Hurdles. He has not started since then. Royal Damon would only need to jump properly to have a.chance, but nothing is J known ■ about Mm in this department. : The same applies to Nippy. Masher finsecond in the Oringi Hurdles at Dannevirke last week and is a promising sort. He previously had raced well on the flat. Jiu Jazz ran two good seconds in hunters' hurdle events- at Manawatu and won the Ashcott Hurdles at Dannevirke, while Calithe and Ruby Dawn may bp the best of the: others'.- The bulk of the investments may go on i ■ DISRANK MAKE UP JIU'JAZZ. - . „ ■■■>. The Spring Hack Cup. ,; ' A big field is carded for. the. Spring •Hack Cup. Cadland has shown ability over eis furlongs and raced well over this distance at the Manawatu winter meeting in the open sprint. He las only to stay on to be very hard to beat. Sir Limond won one race as a two-year-old last season. Portray has been a consistent performer during the last few weeks and raced well at the Wellington winter meeting, winning the Hack Handicap, six furlongs. He ran fourth, in the Rangioutu Handicap of similar distance at Awapuni, and, going on to the Grand National meeting, was second' in the Avonhead Handicap, seven furlongs, suf : fered interference in the Woplston, Handicap, six; furlongs, and finished second in the Redcliffs Handicap,- seven furlongs, only being beaten by a length in,1.29. Brilliant Light was 'top-weight in the Croftori Handicap, seven furlongs,: at the Wellington winter meeting;, and ran third to The Sun and-Shortly. He. is a good sort. Unoco ran; second to:Te Hoia in a, seven-furlong event at the'Waipa meeting, while Goldlike, though a~ promising performer last season, has: not raced for some time. Zerene .was second in the Rangiotu Handicap, ■ six furlongs, at the Manawatu winter meeting and has plenty . of pace. Desert Lad has been a most " consistent performer recently.-' His latest \ efforts were at Dannevirke .last week, '-' when he finished second in the President's Hack' Handicap,, seven furlongs, and, occupied a similar [position in the Kaitoke Handicap, seven.furlongs, on thd following day. Huntingdon scored over five furlongs at Gisborne, afld: Little Wonder, after winning the, Rapkriui Hack Flat, seven furlongs, at the Poverty Bay Hunt meeting, annexed the Harris Hack Handicap, one mile, at Dannevirke. Pakitere, the nilf sister tor Toxeuma, was a good two-year-old last- season and should go well." 'Arrowhead- may be the 'best of the others. The chief selections may be

CADLAND . PORTRAY DESERT LAD. The Marton Handicap. The Marton Handicap is the chief event of the day. Paddon finished third in the Stewards' Handicap at Trentham and, going on to Awapuni, occupied a similar position in the Clifford Handicap, one mile and a quarter, and on the second day won the Newbury Handicap, nine furlongs. He should go well. Marjoram ■won the Clifford Handicap when in receipt,of 61b from Paddon, and in the Newbury Handicap Paddon beat him by a length when in receipt of lib. Now Paddon has to concede Marjoram 41b Hynanna is coming into form and he is coupled with, one who should prove troublesome, and that is Courageous. The latter Avon' the Terrace Handicap, one mile and a qxiarter, at Awapuni in much faster time than the Clifford Handicap was run. Going on to Dannevirke, he finished second in the Neagle Memorial, one mile and a quarter, with 7.13. He lias the same/weight to-morrow, and his racing condition is improving all the time. Black Mint has , not ■ much to his credit recently, and the same applies to Orazone, who hsd been galloping well at Hawera and is given more than a passing chance from there. Avro has had Ins attention confined to hurdling recently, and he and Balloon may prove the best of the others. The chief selections may be ■ ■ ■''■' '' i ':•.' COURAGEOUS-HYNANNA BRACKET. . - :' MARJORAM • PADDON.

The Hunt Cup Steeplechase. Postman, who is at the head of those paid up for in the Hunt Club Cup, has shown excellent jumping ability during the last few weeks. He won the Hunters' Hurdles at the Manawatu winter meeting, accounted for a similar event at the Hawke's Bay Hunt fixture and also the Soutra Hunters' Flat on the same afternoon. His next effort was at Dannevirke last when he Avon the Hunt Club Steeples, two miles and a half, with 10. G. Now he has 11.2, but that should not stop him. Risk won the Manawatu Hunt Club Steeples, about three miles, at Awapuni, and subsequently annexed the Hunt Cup, two miles and a quarter, at Hawke's Bay, while he was third in a similar event at Dannevirke, the distance being two miles and a half. He should go well. Huirangi Girl was second to Risk in the Manawatu Hunt Club Steeplechase and was also second in the Taranaki Hunt Club Steeples. Mandate has been a good performer during the last six weeks, finishing second in the Flaxbourne Steeples at Awapuni and winning the Dannevirke Steeplechase. However, he may not start, as it is reported that he was lame after winniyg the latter event. Trouble, Copey and Nimblefoot look the best of the others. In the absence of Mandate most money will probably go on POSTMAN RISK HUIRANGI GIRL. The Tutaenui Handicap. Mt. Shannon, who has top-weight in the Tutaenui Handicap, won the Rangiuru Hack Handicap, one mile and 85 yards, at the Otaki winter meeting, beating Best Friend by a length, and, going on to Trentham, scored in the High weight Handicap one mile and three furlongs. Hehas been galloping well at Hawera and will be in demand. Merry Melody accounted for an eight furlongs and a half event at the Egmont winter fixture, and would only need to reproduce that form to be hard to beat.'lmateagirl won over a mile last season, while Shortly, though disappointing lately, ran second to he Sun in a seven-furlong event at Trentham in July. His turn should not be far off. Skyrider showed a lot of pace on the flat previous to winning a stteplechase 'at Awapuni. Archeria scored in a Hunters' Flat event at Dannevirke, while of the remainder Winacre and War Zone look the best. The public may entrust most support to MT. SHANNON SHORTLY MERRY MELODY.

The Railway Handicap,

Historic is top-weight in the Railway Handicap, and he is reported to be very well just now. Merry Damon has not raced for. some time and the distance may be a bit too short for him. Limited won at his only start last season, a sixfurlong event, at Waverley. Otairi may be out of his class, but Broad Acre raced so well in sprint events at the recent Manawatu meeting that he will have to be seriously considered. Maui showed winning ability over seven furlongs and a mile at the recent Dannevirko meeting, while Tenterden was a good two-year-old last season and has been working well at Wangamii,'; but he may be in need of a race. Acora ran well enough at Dannevirke last week to suggest that «he will not be long in returning to the winning list. Coon Song performed well at Trentham, -winning two six-furlong events and being third in another, while since then he won well at Manawatu. The bulk of the money will probably go on . COON SONG -; • BROAD ACRE. TENTERDEN. The Concluding Event.
