CONTROL OF RACING.

TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB.

THE ANNUAL MEETING.

> TOTALISATOR DECREASE .£4430.

The annual meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club was held this af t«rnoon, the Hon. E. W. Alison presiding over a good attendance of members.

Mr. Alison said that before proceeding with the business of the meeting it was with deep regret he felt called upon to refer to the death of Sir George Clifford (who for thirty-four years continuously filled the office of president of the New Zealand Racing Conference), and of three respected members of the club, viz., Messrs. J. Molloy, H. B. Philcox, and C. Swaneon, and extend to their widows and families the club's sympathy in their bereavement.

The members stood in silence

In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. Alison said members would be pleased to know that the statement of accounts, though not as satisfactory as could be desired, was more satisfactory than last year, as the year's working, after writing off £784 for depreciation, showed a surplus of receipts over expenditure of £188, compared with a loss of £870 2/ the previous year. The totalisator turnover amounted to £1G3,28C, compared with £167,716 f^Jl 16 P recedin S y c ar, a decrease of £44J0 Consequently, the net receipts from the totalisator, which amounted to £10,754, against £16,216 the previous year, showed a decrease of £432. t>-n S i tl, , knevv *' an sending Gaming BUI had been introduced by Mr. K. S Williams, and it was. to be hoped that the existing law would be so amended fenat the ban upon the telegraphing of money to the totalisator, the use" by clubs of the "double" totalisator, and the publication of dividends, would be removed.

With the new and effective drainage scheme, the condition of the course was so improved that to-day it had never been in such splendid order. During the Past two years, the racing had been remarkably free from accident and been exceptionally attractive, and also that the club deservedly maintains its popularity.

Tlie report and balance-sheet were adopted.
