WAREHOUSE IN' WELLINGTON,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, Sunday.
In a daring attempt to blow open the safe of G. F. Browne's furnishing warelionse at 28,-Courtency Place, on Friday night, burglars made use of detonators and fuses. There were no traces to show how entry was gained to.' the building. -
The safe, which contained only about £4 in silver .and office books, was removed from the office and taken to the back of "the warehouse, 90ft < away. Marks showed that efforts were made to hack-saw the door of the safe.
Eventually a corner about 2in by .lin was sawn off, and this left' an aperture large enough to insert a fuse and detonator. Something must have gone wrong, -however, for the explosion did not take place, the tuse going, out and merely scorching the inside of the safe, Whether the intruders were disturbed is not known, but they abandoned the attempt.
On Saturday morning all the windows and doors of the building .were • found exactly as they had been left the night before] securely locked: Other than the damage to the safe nothing was broken or taken. .■■'.•■■'"
