WASHINGTON, August 7

While preparations to extend relief to the drought suffering districts goes on under the direction of President Hoover, reports indicated the possibility of the damage approaching the billion dollar mark unless rains come soon.

The Federal Farm Board has announced a plan to organise local cooperative agencies in the stricken areas to advance to farmers loans for the purchase of feed for live stock.

Officials at Hie Washington Weather Bureau predict an indefinite continuance of the heat, which will mean increased prices and a shortage of food.

The forest fires are assuming dangerous proportions in many sections of the country and those on several wide territories are beyond control.

The citizens of New York, Philadelphia and other cities are facing a shortage of milk.

Mr. Hoover is arranging to give up his contemplated vacation, and, in order to relieve the situation as far as possible, tho Government is considering the Vi ce transportation of cattle from the stricken areas to fresh pasturage.

The whole of official Washington is deeply concerned over the crisis, which, it is feared, may reach great proportions.
