CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday.

At a meeting , of the Board of Governors of Christ's College to-day the rector, Rev. E. 0. Crosse, for reasons of health, tendered his resignation, to take effcct as from the end of the present year. The resignation was accepted by the board with regret. The Rev. Ernest Courtenay Crosse was appointed headmaster of Christ's College in 1921. He has a: distinguished war record, having served as a chaplain to the forces from 1915 to 1919 and having been decorated Avith . the Distinguished Service Order, the Military Cross and the Croce di Guerra (Italy). Born at Shipley, England, in 1887, He was educated at Clifton College and Balliol College, Oxford; He graduated as a Master of Arts, and' while at the univarsity played as .wing three-quarter for his college Rugby fifteen. He- was an assistant master at Marlborough College, England, from 1911 to 1914 and from 1919 to 1920, and relinquished that appointment to come to New Zealand. In the realm of sport ,he was an enthusiast, being a golfer, a ccicketer and a swimmer. Before the war he rode to hounds with the Tidworth pack, and toured Europe on a motor cycle. By means of canoe he explored • many of the rivers and streams in England. His publications include "The God of Battles" and "The Defeat of Austria."
