HUNTLY.

A water supply scheme for Iluntly was discussed at a meeting of ratepayers convened by the Huntly Town Board for the purpose of receiving the engineer s estimates of the cost, and detailed report of the work to be undertaken. Mr. W. E. L. George, chairman, presided. In submitting a report of the cost ot the work Mr. George stated that various sources of supply had been investigated and samples had been obtained for analysis. After reports had been fully considered with reference to the quantity of water obtainable from the sources, it was found that only two showed a sufficient and suitable supply for the town. One was the Waikato River and the other a stream in the hills on the western side of the river, known as TV-Awa-o-Te-Atua Stream. The estimated cost of these supplies was: Waikato Eiver, £18,044 10/; Te-Awa-o-Te-Atua, £23,049 10/. Both had been fully investigated and the Town Board was of opinion that the Waikato River would be the better scheme as the capital cost was not so heavy. If the scheme met with the approval of ratepayers it would be drawn up in detail. It is expected that a poll will be taken in the near future on this question.
