HAWERA JOTTINGS.

HAVERING VERY WELL

SILVER RULE AGAIN IN WORK

Hawcra trainers are getting ready for the Taranaki Hunt meeting at the end of this month, nominations for which close on Monday next. Local stables will 'be well represented.

Orazone ran two good races at Palmerston, and she should be considerably benefited as the result of those efforts. This mare can be looked to to perform better under the lighter scale of weights, which come into operation this month.

J. Fryer, by scoring 29 wins, heads the list of Taranaki trainers for the third successive season, and runs a dead-heat for second place for the Dominion. This trainer has already a. big team in hand for the coming season.

Peg Black, by Potoa—Maggie Pari, haa been placed under Tl. Brough's care. If an improvement in her manners at the barrier, can be effected she should not be long in winning a race, as she has undoubted speed and has shown signs of staying N on.

Royal Acre, looking in fine, robust health after his spell, has rejoined the active list under M. Conway's care. While out at his owners place, Royal Acre had some schooling over brush fences, acquitting himself well. Bright Glow is carrying plenty of condition, and is being given plenty of trotting and cantering in her preparatory work. Latakia,'who has been spelling at his owner's place, is to be brought in any

time now. Havering is well fancied for the Winter Cup, and will strip well for that event next Tuesday. It is questionable if the Quin Abbey gelding has ever been better. A proved weight-carrier, Haverin? can be relied on to run a great race, and will take all sorts of beating. _ In his gallop the other morning with Richfield over six furlongs, the pair began slowly, but after a furlong the pace was clapped on, and they were going fast at the finish of the journey, run in l.lOi, without being ridden out. Both horses carried over 9.0, and the gallop was a good one. The four-year-old half-brother to Partaga, and Latakia, under C. Jackson's care, continues to show improvement in his track work. He sprinted smartly over three furlongs in just under 38s. R. Brough's team,.Orby's Choice, Peg Black and the Shillinglee and Campfire fillies, are being hackcd round the roads at present. Airtight, Gowan Lea and Mount Shannon are- holding their condition nicely, and will bo ready for spring racing when required. Green Linnet is being kept at steady exercise, while Goblin Market and Zadarino, the two latest additions' to J. Fryer's team, are doing road work.

J. Brown has a select team of eight in active work for the coming season. The threcryear-olds Whirl, by Bisogne— Pirouette, and Bisox's sister, have wintered well, and are regular attendants on the tracks. Chief Link and Awaken are also being given pace work.

Tenacre and Silvermine are also bsing given their preparatory wOrk, and Son o' Mine is, of course, a lit horse for anything he takes on.

Silver Rule, by Chief Ruler, who was a brilliant two-vear-old, but contracted a habit of bleeding, and was sent to the stud, but did not prove in foal, has been brought in to be trained again. Silver Rule has developed into a magnificent type of mare, and if she has got over her bleeding propensities should fulfil her early promises.
