A HIGH-SCORING GAME.

SYDNEY, August 3. There were 5000 spectators at the League football match Metropolis v. New Zealand at the Sydney Sports Ground yesterday. A cold westerly wind blew across the field. The home side won by 39 points to 22. The teams were:— New Zealand.—Gregory, Seagar, Brisbane, Tittleton, Amos, Dodds, Abbott, Timms, Stephenson, Calder, Griffiths, Dufty, Eckhoff. Metropolis.—McMillan, Hardy, Pearce, Why, Brady, Kadwell, Busch, Matterson, O'Connor, Cornwall, Root, Justice, Treweeke. Tho home side livened up till Kadwell secured the ball from a scrum and scored. Hardy converted. After Dufty had kicked two penalty goals and put New Zealand ahead, 9—B, tho homo side became aggressive. Busch, beating three men, passed to Pearce, who scored and Hardy converted. Just before half-time Why scored a try after a great run three-quarters of the length of the field, Hardy converting. The spell ended: Metropolis 18 New Zealand 9 Poor handling robbed the New Zealanders of several opportunities in the second half. Treweeke tried to relieve the situation, but the only result was a penalty goal kicked by Hardy. Busch and Pearce got over the line and Hardy converted one try. The game was now warmly contested and Treweeko and Caldcr were ordered off for rough play. Tittleton and Seagar each scored after fine runs, even the speediest of their opponents failing to stop them. Dufty converted both. Busch added two more tries and Justice secured one for Metropolis, which was converted by Hardy. Abbott crossed the line for New Zealand, and tho game ended: Metropolis 39 New Zealand 22
