NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Northcote Borcagh Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, presiding.
Unemployment Relief Scheme.—A letter was received from the Public ,Work Department stating that the scheme for the employment of ex-servicemen out of work in the borough had been approved/This scheme had been the improvement of the east side of Queen Street, and a total amount of £80 had been provided fof the work.
A donation of £25 made by Mr. J. Clow to the general unemployment fund in th'e borough was allocated to the completion of the council's present undertaking,.so that a Government subsidy of £2 for £1 would be available. The balance of the cost was to be met by the council.
Welfare of Returned Soldiers.— Permission was granted to Mr. J. F. Jackson to use the Council Chamber on July 31 for the purpose of discussing the welfare of ex-servicemen in the district.
