OBITUARY.

WIDOW OF BISHOP WALHS. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 21. The death is announced of the widow of Bishop Waliis, late of Wellington. She became ill at sea on her way to London. Her elder daughter arrived a day too late to see her mother alive. The Rev. A. Ridsdale, also the Bishop of Christchurch, officiated at the burial.

Bishop Waliis was born and educated ip. England, and after a distinguished career at Cambridge, accepted an appointment to the bishopric of Wellington, New Zealand, in 1894. The previous year he. had married Miss Margaret Williams, daughter of C.olonel Robert Williams, M.P., of Bridehead, Dorsetshire.

MRS. RUSSELL, OAMARU. (Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, July 21. The funeral took place of Mrs. Russell, wife of Archdeacon Russell, of Oamaru, at Harrow iii tlie presence of Sir Thomas and Lady Wilford and Mr. T. C. List, a New Zealand delegate to the Empire Press Confe^nce.

Archdeacon Russell was educated at English schools, but. was ordained in Napier Cathedral when 23 years of age. When 24, he married Caroline Cathrop, daughter of Hanser Sheppard, by whom he had one son and two daughters. He was consecrated Archdeacon of Oamaru in 1916.
