HAWXE'S BAY RESIDENCE.
FIRE BRIGADE HELPLESS,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WAIROA (H. 8.), this day. At an early hour this morning a fourroomed house and contents, owned and occupied by Mr. S. Paku, was completely destroyed. As the locality was outside the borough ft water supply area, the fire brigade was helpless. The insurances are in the South British, but the amounts are not yet ascertainable.
HOUSE NEAR CARTERTON.
OCCUPANTS NARROW ESCAPE,

CARTERTON, this day. A fire at 2.30 on Sunday morning completely destroyed a ten-roomed dwelling at Kokotau, owned and occupied by Mr. James Scott, a farmer, who was absent in Wellington. The occupants, Messrs. J. and M. Scott, his two Bons, together with Mr. and Mrs. McNab and their child only had time to grab their clothes and save themselves. The insurances are £1200 on the house and £540 on the contents.
