SIR G. FOWLDS RE-EI/ECTED,
TRIBUTES OF APPRECIATION.
Sir George Fowlds was unanimously re-elected president of the Auckland University College Council at a meeting of the council yesterday.
Sir George had proved a most worthy successor to the late Dr. T. W. Leys, said Mr. Ivenneth Mackenzie, in congratulating the president on (his ten years of office, and proposing his re-election.
"Your relations with the council and the staff have been of the happiest nature," said Mr. Mackenzie, "and it has been your constant endeavour to improve both tho academic and the financial status of the university. You have always looked after the welfare of the students, especially in improving the social life of the university. Your efforts to extend the usefulness of to the community have met with the greatest appreciation." Sir George had also'been the prime mover in the establishment of Massey Agricultui-al College. The council hoped to see him in office in the jubilee year of the college, 1933, when the fine arts block would be completed, and trusted that he might also live to see t'he foundation of a separate University of Auckland.
Professor H. M. Algie, on behalf of .tile university staff, said both the staff and students realised the benefits of the work of the president. Professor F. P. Worley emphasised the cordial relations existing between the council and the staff, and said this was largely due to the intensely human nature of the president. ' Other tributes were paid by members of the council.
