Five Point Margin Over City. A margin of five points gave University j the win over City. The teams'were-:— University.—Butler, Minns, Braeewell, Strikes, McKay, N. Owing to the soft condition of No. 1, the game was played on No. 2 field. Getting the ball from the scrum University, with the breeze behind them, had all the better of the early exchanges, and the City defence was well tested. The students lost a good chance when Butler missed an easy penalty and another opportunity went.begging when Braeewell missed his pass near the City line. A breakaway by Logan put City on the attack, but Butler marked. At this stage Braeewell went off hurt, and a rearrangement of the backs was necessary. A smart City offensive canght the hlues napping, and if Crook had not knocked on he must have scored. Another City attack was spoilt by wild passing, and then Minns flashed out in front with the balL McKay! was up to take his pass and the blues opened up with splendid passing, which went the whole length of the field and allowed Milliken to score. Butler missed. Before the change a gallop by Minns helped! D'Authreau to score. Milliken converted. University S, City 0. City almost scored when McKay tossed out a" long pass to Berridge, who was held up 011 the line. There was desperate scruiuming in the University plot, and City's efforts were rewarded when Berridge crossed for an unconverted try. University worked upfield and Butler was not far out in an angle shot, but City soon rushed the game back and McKay set his gacks moving from a scrum, Carter scoring near the corner. The angle was too w.ide for Berridge. University 8, City 6. . . . University launched a series of back movements in the third quarter, but were still only two points np at the final change. City then had a turn at attack, the forwards working well in the tight. University, however, worked up the paddock, and Rae opened out from a scrum. Minns put in a characteristic gallop, and although tackled he managed to-get an in-field_pass to Stokes who scored. Milliken missed. There was no further score.
