WORK OF THE LEAGUE.

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR.

Mr.-W. J. Holds-worth presided over j the annual meeting of the league, was also held last evening. The annual report , stated that the vear 1929-30 was probably the most important in the league's history, mainly because it marked the passing of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1929, which was the direct result of the league's work over a period of three years. Up to the present the Government's operations had been mainly in the direction of purchasing and subdividing improved holdings, but as the funds available for the purpose became exhausted it was probable that the large area of unproductive Crown lands would be dealt with. The league had always maintained that idle Crown lands and native, I lands should be tackled first. In order to extend the league's activities to other parts of the Dominion a delegation had toured the North Island. Branches were now established at the Bay of Islands, Rotorua,- Hamilton, Hokianga, Darga.vi>lle, Whangarei, Kaitaia, Palmerston North and Wellington. The following officers wert elected:— President, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth; vicepresident, Uγ. M. G. McArthur; executive Messrs. A. A. Ross.. J. E. Makgill, H R Jenkins, E. N. Ormiston, C. J. Lovegrove, R. Glover Clark, W. Noton, Eric Yates, William Fraser, D. Donaldson C. A. Arthur, H. C. Robinson and Sinclair Reid; honorary treasurer, Mr. D. Donaldson; secretary, Mr. N. G. .Gribble.
