DESIRE FOR CO-OPERATION.

At a recent meeting of the local branch of the New Zealand Boot Manufacturers , Association subjects bearing upon the industry were reviewed by Mr. Mareden, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Mr. Camp, secretary and treasurer of the association, Mr. A. Trenwirth and Mr. H. Clarke. Mr. J. Findlay, secretary of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association, was also a guest. Some important problems in connection with the industry, such as scientific research, credit system, the engagement of an expert, the closer relationship between the retailers and wholesalers and between the tanners and the manufacturers were discussed. It was decided to have a meeting of a similar character every quarter and regular business meetings monthly.

A pleasing feature of the meeting was the very evident good feeling and desire upon the part of the members to cooperate one with the other in maTcing this important industry a leading one in the development of the Dominion. Satisfaction was expressed at the increased tfordiality between employers and employees and the almost entire lack of discord in the industry. The very great advance in lay-out, the up-to-date machinery and equipment found in many of the factories and the high standard of the goods produced were commented upon.

The president of the New Zealand Association, Mr. H.- Dearsley, presided.
