APPEAL TO AUCKLANDERS.

FUND OF £210 NEEDED,

A correspondent "Sprinter" writes:—

"Old runners, athletes and sports of Auckland, do you realise that, unless you bestir yourselves, two of the very finest runners this city has ever produced will not have the chance to represent, their country at t the Empire Games to be held in Canada next August? The Auckland Centre of the Amateur Athletic Association must find £210 within a week or so in order to send A. J. Elliott and J. W. Savidan to the Games. If 2100 sports 'would donate the paltry sum of 2/ each there would be sufficient money, and these men would have the satisfaction of knowing that they had helped, to send two splendid athletes to uphold New Zealand's honour at such a gathering as the Empire Games. You, who have applauded the athletic feats of Elliott and Savidan, now have an opportunity to show your appreciation of their worth in a practical way. Subscription lists have been opened and donations may be sent to Mr.,W. Morton, 32, Albert Street, or to Mr. F. Green, c/o, R. Hannah and Co., 197, Queen Street. Do not delay. Time is short and it will be to your everlasting discredit if A. J. Elliott and J. W. Savidan cannot represent New Zealand for want of £210."
