DODDS TO MAKE TRIP.
It. Riley, the Ponsonby centre, has advised the selectors of the New Zealand Leaeue team to tour Australia, that he i≤ unavailable for the trip, and consequently J. Dodds, of " the South Island, has been chosen to replace him. Dodds is a clever second five-eighths, who- gave a gocd account of himself An the match between ,the North arid South Island representatives at CarUw Park on Saturday. __ He has speed and thrust, and should • J. Dadds. do -well under Australian conditions. He has been a West Coast and South Island representative for several years. Dodda weighs 10st 101b and is about 24 years of age. The South Island team, which drew with the elect of the North Island last Saturday, will retain the Lipscombe Shield, which was donated by Mr. Harold Lipscombe, of Auckland, after the match last year. The Southerners gained their first win in the inter-Island fixtures last season, and hold the trophy by virtue of the fact that they have not been defeated since. O'Briea'a Prospects. Hospital reports to-day indicated that M. C. O'Brien, the West Coast forward who met with leg injury on Saturday, will be indisposed for at least three weeks. Hopes are being entertained that he may yet be in time for inclusion in. the national team to play in Australia. Form lost through the accident would have to be made up by intensive training on the steamer going across. O'Brien is skipper of the Nelson Creek Club, of which N. G. Griffiths, one- of the tourists. i 3 also a member.
