GRAMMAR IN GOOD FORM

In the senior secondary schools' grade on Saturday Auckland Grammar School beat Sacred Heart by 4o points to nil. The dry ball and good weather conditions "suited the fast Grammar School team. Qver-eagerness-at the start cost Grammar a couple'of penalties for»offside play and drove them tack. Then from a line-out, the ball travelled to the wing , ,* Hill, who side-stepped the fullback to score. Robinson's kick hit the cross-bar. Shortly after, from a scrum on the twenty-five, Newton slipped round the scrum, but was well collared just short of the line. From the resulting scram Grammar secured and the ball travelled to Currey, who scored in the corner. Slyfield kicked a splendid goaf. Upon the change-over Mcßeath picked up in the ruck and after a. good dash transferred to Douglas, who scored. Slyfield converted with a good kick. Jessup. the Grammar first five-eighths, was holding up play at this stage by too much kicking , . Sacred Heart werer endeavouring to keep play tight, but from a loose scrum the Grammar forwards heeled, and Cnrrey ran round to score between the posts. Eobinson converted. Half-time: Grammar 18. Sacred Heart 0.

In the second half Grammar threw the ball about freely and though Sacred Heart defended well, the Grammar backs were too fast and scores came in quick succession. Fraser broke through, from, a forward rush and passed to Graham to. score; Slyfield missed the kick. Shortly afterwards Mcßeath picked, up and ran half the length of the field to score between the posts. Robinson converted. The next try came to Hill, Robinson's kick failing. The ball then came to Hammon, who gained a lot of ground to pass to Jessup, who kicked over the line and, following fast, touched down. Slyfield goaled. From the kickoff Hammon secured the ball and with a fine run, ran straight through the opposition to score, Robinson's kick failing. Play settled down for a few'minutes and then the Grammar forwards, heeling the ball, sent the Grammar backs away. The ball travelled to Currey, who dashed through to the fullback and then in-passed to Slyfield, who came through with a great burst of speed to score between the posts. Newton converted.
