TROTTING.

HEAVY GOING AT EPSOM.

MARK MEMORIAL FAVOURITE. GREAT PETER DOUBTFUL STARTER. !? VISITORS EXPECTED TO-MORROW. The heavy rain of last night and the early hours of this morning put the dirt track out of bounds for trainers at Epsom to-day, and only the sand track, which was very heavy, was used. The majority of horses were given only slow jogging without the hopples, but one or two were worked with the straps on. Logan's Pride, who promises to be one of the favourites for the Mark Memorial, was hoppled up and worked a couple of miles in saddle. He hit out freely and is in the best condition to undertake immediate engagements. Warplane was another to be harnessed up and sent along with some pace on. This horse is very well and is expected to be hard to dispose of in the fast mile. He has done a good preparation. Lady Author was out pottering about. Her record this season is not a very good one, but she is racing in moderate company and may have to be reckoned with. A. Hendricksen invariably pays expenses when he makes a trip to an Auckland meeting - . For the approaching gathering he has Cardinal Logan, Denver City, and Neeoro engaged, and in their respective classes they are to be considered. Linkman in Form. V. Aiborn is bringing Linkman north for the Auckland meeting. This is a very fast horse and good at all distances. At the Canterbury Park meeting this month he went 4.24 in finishing second to Travis Axworthy at two miles, and on the second day paced 2,7 3-S to get third in the mile won by Wilma Dillon. These performances make it clear that Linkman is right at the top of his form. W. Tomkinson's team for the Auckland meeting will comprise "Vyilrna Dillon, Country King and Home Voyage. All have been returned winners during the past three weeks and as they are nicely handicapped they look like adding to their winnings. Country King is ! the one who should get the money before the meeting ends. Great Peter Doubtful. Great Peter, who has been the favourite for the Mark Memorial since the handicaps appeared, is reported to be a doubtful starter. Up till a few days ago he had been doing well in his training work, but then he began to display signs that all was not well with Mm. It will depend upon how he does from now on whether he starts on Saturday or not. R. Berry will only have two norses, Sunshower and Vecto, at the meeting. They are expected to arrive to-morrow. "Unless the weather clears there, will 'be no opportunity given local trainers to work their horses fast before the meeting unless they make a trip out to Otahuhu. It will be remembered that before the last meeting at Auckland the committee of the Auckland Trotting Club granted the use orr one morning of the outside of the grass track, a concession which was greatly appreciated by trainers.

AT MAN GERE.

There was not a great deal doing at Jlangere this morning, where the track was holding. W. Nightingale went out from Epsom with his team, and gave Nelson Tasker, Evelyn Locanda and Chrystal useful work. Carmel, who has arrived from the South together with Invader and Writer, was sent a mile and a half in company with Jewel Pointer. Carmel did not" impress, and was pulled up at the end of a mile and a quarter. Jewel Pointer went on and finished up his task well.

J. Bryce is coming to Auckland to drive Evelyn Locanda in the Mark Memorial.
