BORE PROPOSED.
WATER FOR SWIMMING BATH.
TRAINING COLLEGE CONSTRUCTION
It was decided at the meeting of the Auckland Education Board this morning, in connection with the proposal to construct a swimming bath at the Training College, that the possibilities of an artesian flow being found on the site should be investigated.
The Department of Education advised that a grant of £500 had been approved towards the cost of constructing a swimming bath at the Training College. This was conditional, however, on the board finding £300 from the rebuilding fund and on the Normal and Epsom schools finding £100 each.
Mr. A. Burns, the chairman, said'that the cost of a filtration plant would be too high. On the other hand, if the water were obtained from the City Council it would have to be renewed each week at an approximate cost of £5. He quite realised the importance of teaching the students to swim, but he thought that the possibilities of., a natural supply of water should be investigated.
It was recommended that the board employ a water diviner to explore the site and to make a bore in the event of water being found.
