Congress.
SPANISH WAR PENSIONS
(Received 11.30 a.m.)
WASHINGTON, June 2,
President Hoover suffered the first important political defeat when the Senate, by a vote of 01 to 18, and the House by 298 to 14, overrode the President's veto of a bill increasing the Spanish-American War veterans' pensions. Officials expressed amazement, particularly at the Houses' action, the latter having followed White House direction almost exclusively in rccent years.
