; The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated . May 31, from the High Commissioner foi ■ New Zealand, London: — Tallow—Market quiet and very little [ demand at auction. Present quotations are for spot:—Mutton: -Fine, 36/ to 36/6; fair to good, 33/ to 34/6; dark to dull, 30/ to 31/..; Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 34/ tc '■ 37/; fair to good, 31/6 to 33/6; dark tc 1 dull, 38/ to 30/. Mixed: Fair to good, 31/ ! to 33/; dark to dull, 38/6 to 29/9; gut, 26/ . to 29/. Hemp.—Manila: Market dull and easier, J grade for July-September and AugustJ October shipment sold down to £24. Sisal: Market continues dull and prices lower. Sellers of fair average quality No. 1 afloat at £28 10/ and June-August shipment at £28 15/. Buyers' ideas 5/ less. No. 2, 20/ below No. 1. Good marks not quoted. New Zealand: Market very quiet. Small sales of fair for Mar-June shipment at £25 10/ and No. 3 tow, £16. Shippers offering common at £23 10/ and rejected at £22 10/, but prices unattractive in comparison. Oats.—Demand continues slow. English supplies of moderate and 'best white offered at 20/. German freely offered and May shipment sold up to 15/6. Chilean afloat sold at-12/9 and Plate at 12/. Nominal value, New Zealand A grade Gartons, for May-June shipment, 20/. Peas—Better / demand during the month. English': New crap maple' promises well, but old crop quiet, and parcels firmly held for 42/ to 43/. _ A grade Tasmanian for June-July shipment sold at 63/6 and New Zealand May shipment at 57/6, with .buyers of June-July shipment at-58/. Blues: Poor demand. Good Dutch and English etill obtainable at low prices. ;No inquiries for colonial and nominal values about £12 a ton. Beans.—English: Better inquiry and good winter making 38/ to 39/. Market is inactive for imported. Chinese horse, for July-September shipment, offered at, £8-a ton. •' Danish Cocksfoot.—Demand slow. Present value, 75/, c.i.f., nominal. Linseed. —Market quiet, but steady, closing firm. Sellers quote May-June shipment, Calcutta, at £18 17/6 and Bombay at £19 10/. Plate afloat sold up to £17 12/6. Apples—Good trade at slightly lower prices. Average prices are: —Delicious, 10/ to 12/; Jonathan, 10/ to 13/; Dunns Favourite, Senator, Cleopatra, Sturmer, 12/ to 14/; Newtown Pippin, 12/ to 13/; Salome, Stayman's' Winesap, 11/ to 12/;' Otago sorts, generally 1/ more, with Cox's Orange, 20/ to 30/. Pears.—Poor Market. Large arrivals of Victorian and New Zealand. Prices about the same as last week, to 6d per tray easier.

DAIRY PRODUCE. Messrs. Leonard and Son, Ltd.,. have received advice by cable from London dated May 31, of the following market report:— Cheese. —New Zealand, white, 77/; coloured, 83/. The demand is improving and the market has an upward tendency. Outlook is for higher prices. Butter—New Zealand, first grade, 124/; finest 126/.
