The annual match between past and present students of Sacred Heart College in connection with the old boys' reunion was played at the College grounds yesterday afternoon. An even game resulted in a win for the Old Boys' team by 11 to 9. There was a large attendance of old hoys and their friends. The teams were: — Past Students. —Larsen, Foy, McLeod, Lanigan, M. Smith, W. Wright, Gourley, Walsh, McVeagh, Stone, Barker, Belcher, Lynch, Ricketts. Present. — Kendall, Mclvewen, McConachie, Hackett, K. Smith, Elliott, Vangioni, O'Brien, Plant, Cuddon, Large, S. Smith, Dunn, Kavanagh, Gillrooly.
Old Boys won the .toss and from midfield play McVeagh dribbled through, but the school forwards came back, K. Smith cutting through nicely; a force resulting. Then from a penalty Elliott goaled. Present 3, Past 0.
From the kick-off McLeod and M. Smith carried play into the school 25, Gourley missing from a mark. The quarter ended with the school forwards attacking. From a forward rush initiated by Stone, M. Smith secured to score for Old Boys. Belcher failed to convert. Past 3, Present 3.
Good work I>y Stone and Gourley had school in trouble,,,in the 'third quarter, but a penalty sent the old boys back, Elliott narrowly missing from a penalty. The school forwards were smothering tlie opposing backs effectively until Walsh broke through, but his pass went astray. The quarter ended with the scores unchanged.
Old Boys attacked strongly in the final quarter and M. Smith ran through to pass to Walsh, who scored unopposed. Foley converted. Past 8, Present 3. Old Boys continued to attack but Vangioni broke through, Kavanagh next securing to score in the corner. The kick failed. Past 8, Present G. From the kick-off', M. Smith cut through and passed to Stone, who scored near the posts. Walsh failed with the kick. School attacked strongly in the final stages of the game and from a penalty S. Smith goalecl. The game ended soon after with the scores: Past 11, Present 9; Mr. E. Nicholson was the referee.
