LEAGUE FOOTBALL

NORTH V. SOUTH.

THE TEAMS SELECTED.

NO WELLINGTON PLAYERS.

The following team has been announced by the selectors to represent the North Island in the North v. South match to be played at Carlaw Park on June 14:—

Full-back. —Dufty.

Three-quarters.—Perry, Brisbane, Tittleton (South Auckland).

Five-eighths.—Meyer . (North Auckland), Wetherill. v

Half-back. —Shortland,

Back Row.—Clarke (Marist). Second Row. —Clark (City), Timing (South Auckland).

Front Row.—Menzies (South Auckland), Stevenson (South Auckland), Trauvetter (South Auckland).

Reserves.—O'Brien (Marist)i Abbott (South Auckland). > 1 Few Surprises. * iTliere aie few surprises in the North Island tea'pi, which is well-balanced and be capable of giving a good account of itself. Dufty was the only possible choice of selectors for the fullback position,.while, with the exception of George Perry, the selection of the three-quarter line was pretty much of a foregone conclusion. Perry would do better at centre, but it is apparent that he is selected for one of the wing positions. Tittleton, the South Aucklander, by his great exhibition against Auckland on Saturday, could not have been overlooked, while Brisbane is the right man for the right place, at centre. E. Meyer and Wetlierill are two speedy and resourceful five-eighths and should combine well. Shortland'was a certainty for the half-back position and should do well behind the great pack that has been chosen. '

There are many good forwards offering, but those who have been sorted out are about the best of the lot. Menzies, Stephenson, Trautvetter and Timms are a quartet of great battlers, who did much to win the Northern Union Cup for the Waikatoites. " In addition to being equal to any tight stuff that is going, they mix brains with, brawn. Clark and H. Clarke, of City ajid Marist respectively, are a pair of fast raiders who have been playing consistently since the > season began. The former has 'jumped into .prominence this season, when he secured representative honours for the first time.

SOUTH ISLAND SIDE. «, (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHTJRCH, Sunday. The following League football team will represent the South Island against the North Island at Auckland: Palamountain, Bond, McKenzie, Pearce (Otago), Dodds, Griffiths (West Coast), Amos, Townshend, Ecklioff (Otago), O'Brien (West Coast), Dobbs. Reserves, Doogan (West Coast), Hicks (Otago). Where otherwise not stated the players are Canterbury men.

The names missing from the South Island team are those of E. McKewen (Otago) and the forward Calder (West Coast) who were prominent in the same side last year. Mr. 0. E. Carlaw, who, with the New Zealand Council's official, selector, Mr. W. Murray, witnessed the trial game at Christchurcli on Saturday, returned to Auckland this morning. His impression is that the South Island will field another very solid combination on June 14.

The greatest surprise is the omission of the Otago player, Gordon Blazey, who ** failed to produce his best form, as he was suffering from a strained ligament, possibly he will be'given another chance in the curtain raiser trial to the interisland contest.
