CORINAX'S GOOD MILE.

HANNIBAL ALSO PLEASES.

STANDFAST IN GOOD FETTLE,

The weatlier was fine yesterday for training work at Ellerslie when all fast work was done oil the outside of the course proper, with the poles about 60ft out from the rails. Although the going was holding,' there were several useful gallops, the best being recorded by Corinax. . ' " The Course Proper. King Emerald and Gold Money were the first out and were not doing their best to run five furlongs in 1.9 3-5. King Emerald carried most weight, and went well. Gold Money also pleased. Coriiuu (Wiggins) Hannibal (McTavish), and Restaurant (Cammick) jumped away at the mile post, running tlie first half of their task in 535, and the full distance in 1.48 3-5. The last six furlongs were covered in 1.22 2-5. Corinax and Hannibal were kicked out at the finish, the former being a shade in front, with Restaurant several lengths back. This was the best gallop of the morning and was a first-class effort.

Kauri Park and Mountain Guide were companions over a mile. They ran the first four furlongs in 55 l-ss, and completed their task in 1.53 2-5. Quincoma joined in at the four-furlong post, and was,a shade in front <?f Kauri Park at the finish. The last four furlongs took 58 l-ss.

Standfast (H. Gray) reeled off his first four furlongs in 545, and got to the end of a mile in 1.51 2-5. He was going on strongly at the finish and is in tij> top order.

Ponjola and Elysianor, who had the worst of tlie weights, ran a mile and a quarter in 2.33 2-5, the last round taking 2.24. They were together '"throughout, and both horses went well.

Marita ran home from the half mile post in 59 4-ss. He. was carrying plenty of weight.',, _ _ , . Prince Lii, after 'trotting once "round on the sand, was pulled on. to the course proper and completed seven furlongs in 1.44 4-5. This horse has never looked better than at present. Honiton and Takutama were together •t the end of half a mile, which took 54 *-5«. .

St." Warrigal was timed to run home rom the seven-furiong post in 1.42 4-5.

Mister Gamp (Wiggins) and Pahu (Gray) started off steadily, over i und "nd ran their last" seven furlongs in ,1.40 4-5. The last half mile was completed in 595.' Both liorses did their work well,- particularly Mister Gamp. Roman Abbey did steady work, and then joined by Taumai traversed a round in 2.16 4-5, the last five furlongs in 1.12 1-5. ' Eoman Abbey shaped particularly well, and has improved a'good deal since Easter.

High Pitch and Valcuir were timed to run six furlongs in 1.24 3-5. The latter was'going best at the finish, and should race well in hack events at the meeting.

Snow Prince gave Mangani half a dozen lengths' start and was up with him at the finish of five furlongs in 1.12 1-5, Snow Prince is in racing condition.

Pennyplain was going a shade better than Four Aces at the finish of seven furlongs in 1.44 3-5,

Chromadyne and Tinokoa, after taking 43 3-5s for their first three furlongs, completed six furlongs in 1.25 2-5. They had a lot of pace on when they jumped off and there was not much between them at the finish.

Several others were given useful tasks, but were not after time.

Omeo, whose injury has improved a good deal under treatment,, was cantered and trotted in the centre.

THIS MORNING'S WORK.

MENDIP, SEATOWN, AND HOARIRI

GALLOPED BEST.

Fine weather again prevailed for training operations at Ellerslie this morning, when all fast work was done on the No. 3 grass track, which was a bit holding. No. 3 Grass. Eager Rose was first out, sprinting home from the three-furlong post in 39 3-ss. Hoariri gave Dayform Wild Country half a dozen lengths start from the six-furlong post, and he was timed to run his last half mile in 51s, Wild Country being £ in front at tho finish. Private watches made Hoariri's time for the six furlongs 1.17 3-5, which would be a first-class performance.

Eoman Abbey and Tinokoa did strong work, hitting out very freely, and Maori Boy also worked steadily over a round, but was not after time.

After cantering once round High Pitch picked up Merry Lu at the threefurlong post and ran home in 39 4-ss. The Cornwall Handicap horse is in first-class condition.

Mister Gamp did strong work over a couple of rounds, running home over the last six furlongs in 1.28 4-5.

Aurora Borealis was going better than Four Aces at the end of six furlongs, which took 1.24 4-5.

Cliromadyne and Takutama sprinted half a mile in 525, both going well. Kawainga finished in front of Lucilius and Transformer at the end of six furlongs, which they covered in 1.22 4-5.

The Cornwall Handicap candidates Mendip and Seatown were companions over six furlongs, completing the distance in 1.20 3-5. Mendip was again in front at the finish, but Seatown, who was on the outside, did his work well.

/ Patutahi and Brampton ran home from the half mile post in 54 4-ss, while Pahu, who was not bustled, cov« ered the same distance in 555. King's Jest and Grattus completed six furlongs in 1.25, both going nicely. Nancy Lee and Sir Mond reeled off five furlongs in 1.8 3-5. Derry Belle jumped off behind them, and was in front at the finish, being timed to run the same distance in 1.6 2-5. Bold Front ran the last three furlongs of his work in 41 3-ss. ' Air Laddie covered six furlongs in 1.22, and did it well. Imperial Prince and Neil took 57s to run four furlongs, Marble Mount covering a similar distance in 54 3-ss. St. Warrigal and Sunny Morn took 1 1.25 2-5 to run six furlongs. Airtight and Copey covered five furlongs in 1.10 1-5, and r—tcring round again, ran home over the same distance in 1.11. Currajong was timed to run his last four furlongs in 57 4-ss, Kongo taking 58 2-ss. Kameliameha and Mon Star were sent . over a round, which they completed in 1.45 3-5. Kaniehamelia was running on at the finish. Abbess sprinted four furlongs in , 54 l-ss'. Matu and Lucess did strong work over six furlongs. The Jumpers. Pennyplain (W. Bennie) gave a good display over four schooling hurdles, and afterwards worked on the No. 3 grass track. Temperature (T. Williams) cleared a couple of schooling hurdles in good stvle.
