1 REPORT OF BRIGADE. The value of Takapuna properties attacked by lire last year was, according to the report of the superintendent of the lire brigade, £5265, and the actual estimated damage done was £2755. In two cases the buildings were so far from the water main that 1000 ft of hose had to be run out and only one jet could be brought to bear. Under those conditions it was impossible to save the houses. The cost of the brigade was £666. Members of the fire brigade have offered that if the Borough Council will build them a social room above the station, at a cost not exceeding £250, they will pay interest on the amount at 7 per cent, and also contribute a small sum annually to help the council in paying off the principal.
