_— « NEW LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL. A meeting of the New Lynn Borough Council was held last evening. -The Deputy-Mayor, Mr. Geo. Lawson, presided. Water Board—Mr. Piatt was appointed delegate to a conference to be held relative to the proposal to establish an Auckland Provincial Water Board. Hospital Board Levy—The council decided to support Mr. E. H. Potter in his endeavours to retain the levy at the previous year's figures. Ex-Servicemen—The Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association ottered a £15 donation to 'be subsidised £1 for £1 for employment of ex-servicemen. The, offer was accepted. Resignation.—A letter from Mr. Worthington enclosed his resignation as a member of the council. It was accepted with regret, and the town clerk was authorised to take the necessary steps to fill the vacancy. Pottery Works.—Permission was sought by Mr. H. A. Crura to take up, deepen, and relay the drain from the pottery works across Portage Road and through Mr. Bethell's property, to the Whau Creek, the object being to drain the site for a kiLi, which is about to be erected. He said the work would be carried out by experienced drainage contractors, under close supervision. The council agreed to the proposal, subject to the approval of the property owner concerned, and on the condition that the council be put to no expense through the change. Whau Bridge.—A letter was received from the Auckland Harbour Board relative to the proposed new bridge over the Whau Creek. The board stated that the requirements were only such as were necessary to safeguard the reasonable needs of navigation, considering that the bridge Was over tidal -waters connecting with the proposed canal route. If the proposed commission evidence in that direction the board would supply it.

Through Trains.—A further letter was received from the Railway Department in reply to the council's objection to through trains, owing to a'bsense of alarm signals at the Totara Avenue level crossing. The Department stated that the stopping of all trains at New Lynn could not be conveniently arranged, as it would materially affect the runnimr of trains on that section to the detriment of the travelling public. The council's reply will be that it considers the safety of the public should be the first consideration. Evidence of the clanger was particularly evident during yesterday's foggy period.
