HOSPITAL ESTIMATES.

-• WELLINGTON - CANTERBURY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. * The Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, is having a busy time reviewing the annual estimates of the hospital boards throughout New Zealand. Each board is required by statute to submit to the Minister for approval its yearly estimates for net maintenance" and net capital requirements. This is no formal matter, as the Department and Minister very closely scrutinise the estimates and programmes. The .estimates of the Wellington Hospital Board for the current year show a decrease of £11,227. The board begins the year in an improved financial condition, owing to over-estimating its maintenance expenditure last year. The maintenance estimates for the current year provide for an increase in receipts other than levy and subsidy, and a decrease in expenditure compared with last year, but the proposed capital expenditure other than that provided from loan account shows an increase of approximately £7000. The estimates for the North Canterbury Hospital Board for the current year shows net maintenance requirements as £140,163, as against £158.012 last year, and net capital requirements £95713 as against £7200 last year, showing a total decrease for this year of £10,079. The total levy to cover capital and maintenance is £7(,845, as compared with £80,882 last year, a decrease of £3037, and a decrease in subsidy of £7041.
