LAST MINUTE SAVES DEFEAT.

The Walker Park playing field was occupied by the Somerville-North Shore match, that resulted in a fast and fairly even game, ending with honours even. The Shoreites had decidedly the best of the first spell, but lost numerous opportunities that should have given them a comfortable win. Sonierville, playing more like a team, were seen to greater advantage in the second spell. Ends were changed with the Shoreites a goal up, but the piercing attacks of the whites in the second spell gave them a taste of defensive work. Shore's back divi-' sion was solid enough, the weakness proved forward, owing to a lack of combination. The best excitement of the match was when Shore evened the score and averted defeat in the dying moments of the game. Rankin, in goal, gave a good display for Shore.. Allen and Parker were very safe at.fullback, and got through a lot of work in the second half. Haggett was very sound at centre-half. L. Carter appeared as centreforward, but was below form, and requires ft few Tuns. Reid and Monteith, the wingers, were prone to give sticks or get offside. Anthony was not up to standard, but made some good flashes, while Penman was inclined to crowd and hamper his winger. Wilkle was on his game as goalie for Somerville. The full-backs missed badly in , the first half, but in ,the second half played to form. Smith was the best. The halves were poor, Rogers being about the pick. Clive Watts shone in the . first line. Seccombe was weak. Schneideman put In some very good work on the Wing, and his goal was a splendid effort.
