TAUMARUNUI MEETING.

THE WINTER FIXTURE. FLYING PRINCE TAKES PRESIDENT'S. MOSQUE WINS FAREWELL. The Taumaruniii Racing Club 'held a one-day meeting at Taumaruniii on Saturday. The weather .was fine rfnd there was a fairly good attendance. The course was a bit holding after recent rain, but nevertheless there were some good finishes. Durinfi the day the sum of £9242 was put through the totalizator. Run in Divisions. Owing to the number of acceptors in the Matapuna Hack Handicap it had to be run in divisions. Te Waitai was favourite with £282, and Mauriaena (£172) and Sir Kay (£164) were next fancied, while Ruling Chief carried only £97 and Rose Lupin £51. . In the first division Norval Tea and Rose Lupin began best and were attended by Tauximu and Sir Kay. Crossing the top the order was the same with Principal Boy and Land Measure next. Rose Lupin went on to score by a neck from Sir Kay, v who beat- The Jack Jumper by a length and a half; then followed Norval Tea, Land Measure and Taurimu. In the second division Abbey Queen was the first to move and was followed by Ruling Chief, Foreign Fancy and Mauriaena. Ruling Chief was in front before the top was reached, with Wild Country, Abbey Queen, Golden Pennant and Te Waitai next. Ruling Chief was first to turn for home and went on to score by a neck from Abbey Queen, who beat Mauriaena hy two lengths. Then, came Te Waitai, Derry Belle and, Foreign Fancy.

A Big Dividend. Maori Boy, Flying Prince, Tinokoa, Sea Cob, Macroom, Vital and Whenuatonga failed to saddle up' for the Rangaroa Flying Handicap. The public -went for Prince Val, who had the services of H. Gray, entrusting hini with £508, while Hoariri (£189) and Takutama ( £181} were sorted out as the next most likely to succeed. However,, there was a surprise in store, for The Jack Jumper, who had only £24 10/ invested on his chance, beat the favourite narrowly. White Ringlet began "best from Takutama, Te Monanui, Dave and Hoariri. Before two furlongs had beeii covered Takutama was in front from 'Dave, Hoariri, White Ringlet, Nancy Lee and Prince Val. Dave was in charge when the straight was reached, being attended by Takutama, Hoariri, The' Jack Jumper and Prince Val,. who was on the outside. The Jack Jumper was -in command halfway down, and, stalling off Prince Val, beat him by half a length, with Nancy Lee two lengths further back, followed by'Takutama, White Ringlet and Dave. The 1 winner paid upwards of a third of a a century. '.• ' ''"'•' The Owhango Hack. ' Valstrcet, Taurimu; Bahama, Muriel Latour, Benighted and Pukerimu 'were the defections from the Owhango Hack Handicap: Kaha (£358) was first choice, with Elysianor (£228), and Snow Prince (£173) next in demand, while the winner, Valreina, had £84, and Abbey Queen who finished second, only £30 invested on them. Snow Prince and Abbey Queen: showed the way past the stands, but along the back Abbey Queen was in charge from Snow Prince, Kowinui, Rose° Lupin and Kaha. Valreina rushed to the front crossing the top from Abbey Queen, Kiwinui, Elysianor and Red Day. Thev entered the straight in this order, and "Valreina went on to win by half a. length from Abbey Queen, who beat Red Day by .a length. Snow Prince, Rose Lupin, Elysianor and Kaha followed as.named. ; . ■• '

v The. Farewell. Five course scratchings in the Farewell Handicap reduced the field to eight ' and when- the- machine closed/. Tinokoa ' was favourite with £373 on his chance. Mosque was.almbst. as'well supported, and carried £ 361, hut there was a substantial drop to the third 'Choice, Lunette, who was entrusted with £168: White Ringlet,-' Abbess, Siaosi, and Lunette were prominent early, hut White Ringlet soon drew clear, and along the hack had a three lengths fcreak on Abbess, with Lunette, Mosque .Thursby and Tinokoa following. There was little or no change in the positions across the top, but by the. time homfe ituni! was reached,' Abbess had dropped back and White Ringlet led into the straight with Lunette and Mosque closing up the gap, and Tinokoa next.
