WAIHI.
At a meeting of the organising committee of the queen competition in connection with the campaign to raise funds in aid of the Waihi Beautifying Society it was decided to nominate three candidates —farmers', miners', and licensed victuallers'. Miss Mary Weedon was selected to represent the licensed victuallers. On the eve of his departure for Wellington, where he is joining the police force, Mr. T. Agnew, a prominent footballer,' was entertained at a social gathering, and was the recipient of a travelling outfit. Mr. F. O. Knight, organiser for the New Zealand Herd Testing Association, addressed a meeting of district farmers belonging to the Waihi group on Friday evening. Miss A. G. Plummer, 8.A., a member of the secondary staff of the.Waihi District High School, has resigned, and intends shortly. to visit the Old Country. Owing to one of the fuses blowing out, several of the business premises in the town were plunged in darkness on Friday evening. The defect was remedied within an hour by the board's local "trouble man," Mr. W. Holdsworth.
