TEACHING OF OBSTETRICS.
LECTURE TIME NOT ADEQUATE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. The statement that the obstetrical chair at Otago University will be wasted unless more time is for the course is made by a medical student in a letter received in Hamilton privately. The writer said he considered the public should know of this aspect, in view of the current appeal for funds. In the opinion of the present teachers at Otago University not enough time was allowed in the curriculum for the subjects' of midwifery and gynaecology. It would obviously do little good to have a firstclass professor and a first-class hospital if the facultv of medicine would not permit more time for the subject. The lectures in the subjects mentioned were delivered at high speed, and it was only thus possible to cover the ground in the time allowed. As a student, the writer said he thought the lectures were delivered excellently, and the teachers ere only too pleased to explain difficult points, but owing to the speed of delivery of the lectures and time taken in transcribing them, the students could not attend to the explanation of some practical points.
