"CHRISTMAS SEALS."

TOT Al< REVENUE £2500. A PROMISING BEGINNING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The inaugural "Christmas seal 7 ' campaign against tuberculosis in New Zealand, organised at the close of last year, resulted in £2500 being raised, which means that £5000 worth of stamps were sold. Half the revenue was retained by the Post Office. The funds raised this year will provide the nucleus for the establishment of permanent children' 3 health camps. The damage rate of the disease, affecting as it does, so many people in earlier years, is perhaps worse than the mortality rate, says the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy. It was reported recently, he says, that there were 27 notifications of tuberculosis weekly in New Zealand. There were initial difficulties in inaugurating the "Christmas seal" campaign, and unforeseen delay in getting the stamps on sale, and this no doubt affected the measure of success. However, the Minister said, he was gratified at the result and felt confident that this year it would be at least trebled.
