N STAINING SHOES. When staining shoes to a different colour, first wash them thoroughly in warm water with soft soap to remove all grease and old polish. Dry them by rubbing with a soft cloth, afterwards putting them on trees in a warm place. Put on the stain with a pad of cotton wool, working it in with- a circular movement as quickly as possible to avoid a streaky appearance. ' Leave them to dry and then polish iu the ordinary way. When applying the stain wear a pair of old gloves to protect the hands.
