TE AROHA.
The attendance at the public meeting convened by the Agricultural and Pastoral Association to form a committee in Te Aroha to assist the queen carnival was not largely attended. The Mayor presided, and said there was no breach between the Association and the Borough Council, but there was what might be called a difference in regard to the percentage for each of the net profit. Mr. F. M. Strange, president of the Association. said the offer of 25 per cent to the Jubilee Committee still held good if a Te Aroha committee was formed to elect a Te Aroha queen. The following resolution was passed by ten to eight votes : —"That the people of Te Aroha form a committee with the object of electing a queen in connection with the queen carnival." The following committee was appointed with power to add to their number: — Messrs. W. C. Kennedy, G. Walsh, L. Mackie, .T. L. Barlow. A. D. Wallace, J. Heathcote, F. T. Halligan and E. V. Fitzpatrick. A "Garden Fayre," held at Manawaru in aid of the carnival fund, was a pronounced success. There was a large attendance from all parts of the district, and a much-appre-ciated programme of music was rendered bv the Te Aroha Municipal Band. The various stall-holders registered very satisfactory business, and the tug-of-war resulted in Manawaru defeating Mangaiti, and later being beaten by Martelli's team. Mr. and Mrs. H. Todd, of Waitoa, who are leaving for Monovale. were presented by the vestry of St. Mark's Church with a barometer, and from the choir received a gold-mounted fountain pen. The Rev. Connolly spoke eulogisrically of the valued services rendered by the recipients to the church for several years.
