PERSONAL.
The Hon. W. Downie Stewart is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. H. H. Sterling, General Manager, of Railways, returned to Wellington last night. Mr. J. Fan-ell, Auckland manager for J. C. Williamson, Ltd., returned from Rotorua yesterday. Mr. W. M. Kirkcaldy (London), Mr. J. McLarcn Henderson (Scotland), and Mr. B. R. Collins (Wellington) are at the Gx-and Hotel. Mr. E. G. Martin, director of the Atlantic Union Oil Company, will leavs by the Aorangi for a tour of America. Mr. Samuel Kennedy, of Stanley Bay, left for Wellington yesterday to join the Ulimaroa, en route to England, America and the Continent. Star Hotel guests include: Mr. H. Angell (Christchurch), Mr. and Mrs. G. Mitchelson (Wellington), and Mr. M. H. Jones (Te Kuiti). New aiTivals at the Central Hotel include: Mr. E. J. Isaac and Mr. S. D. Oldham (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. A. Nash (Honolulu) , Mr. H. G. Hewitt, S.M. (Marton), and Mr. D. Fraser (Dannevirke). Mr. Harvey Turner, managing director of Turners and Growers, Ltd., will leave by the Aorangi on a business visit to Canada and America. He will attend the 25th annual convention of the Rotary International in Chicago. Mr. W. S. Austin, inspector since 1919 of manual and technical schools under the Education Department, retired at Wellington at the beginning of this month after 44 years of educational service in New Zealand. He was Colonel of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, and was awarded the D.S.O, for services against the Senussi.
