WORKED. ON SUNDAY.
DlfJ-TKIBUTING- HAKDEILLS. •UNEMPLOYED MILKMAN FINED. That he worked at the'calling of a land agent aiul' salesman on Sunday, 3 larch 8; was the charge preferred Againat Alfred Clemmett at the Police Court this merning. Clemmett, for •whom Mr. Sehyyn Clarke appeared,' pleaded not guilty. Constable Scandrett said ha went clown to Surf dale en an excursion steamer on Sunday, March S. Ciemmett was standing on the wharf'distributing pamphlets to the steamer passengers as Ihpy walked along the,wharf. The pamphlets advertised sections at Waiheko for sale on a deposit of £2 10/ and .instalments of £1 monthly. Witness asked defendant about the sections, and Clemmett agreed to show them to him. "The distribution of the handbills was rather annoying to passengers, some of whom had to put down their bags to take them," added witness. lu a statement which defendant made to the'constable, he said lie had boengivena number of the handbills to distribute and that he was there to show people about. He added that Whitley and Company sold the sections. Mr. Clarke said Clemmett was a milkman, but he was out of work. He was not a land agent or salesman. The magistrate fined Clemmett £1.
