WESTERN SAMOA.
MR. ALLEN TO RETIRE? reported desire. DUE TO WIFE'S INDISPOSITION. It was learned unofficially this afternoon that Mr. S. S. Allen, Administrator of Western Samoa, wishes to retire from the post, on of the continued indisposition of his A\ifc. ; Mr. Allen took up the appointment m April, 1928. The appointment was for no definite term. Mr. Allen, who is a barrister by profession, belongs to Morrinsville, of which town he "was Mayo "at the time of his appointment. _ _ Mr. Allen was an exceedingly popmar officer of the N.Z.E.F. He joined the Hauraki Regiment as major, and m 191/ -was promoted licutenant-colonel, and "ieceived the D.S.O. He was appointed m the same Year to command the 2nd .Battalion of the Auckland Regiment, and held the command until the battalion was disbanded in 1919. ,
