TWICE REJECTED.
; BEER DUTY REDUCTION. (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 30. In-the House of Commons Sir W. A. Wayland (Con., Canterbury) moved to.vreduce the new beer duty from 3/ to 2/6 per barrel. Ho said that while every other war tax had been reduced, the' beer tax had been doubled. The amendment was defeated by 243 votes to 112. . , Sir W. A.. Wayland then moved to grant a rebate of 2/ per barrel for beer brewed purely from local malt and hops. This was also defeated, by 275 votes to 145.
