AUCKLAND POWER BOARD. RESULT OF ELECTION. ME. S. I. CEOOKES EE-ELECTED. The confidence of tlie ratepayers in the sitting members of the Auckland Power Board was strikingly demonstrated at the quadrennial poll held yesterday. Eleven of the sitting members were returned, and the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. S. 1. Crookes,v when he left to go abroad last May, was filled by his re-election. The following table shows the votes cast for each candidate in the city area, in the outer suburban areas and the total, the first twelve candidates being elected: —

As .was the case 1 ' with the drainage loan proposal, the voting was light, and only between 5000 and 5500 of the 30,000 on the roll registered their votes. There were no fewer than So polling booths in the wide area administered by the board, but the last return had been received and the-final totals made up just, before nine o'clock. The figures given above are subject to a recount, which will probably not be finished till midday on Saturday and also to the addition of votes by declaration. A number of ratepayers whose names did not appear on the roll recorded votes by declaring that they were entitled to be there. A scrutiny of each of tliese cases will have to be made. It seems likely, however, that the present result will stand, as tlie number of these votes by declaration is only between 30 and 40, and there is a margin of 31 between tlie lowest elected and the next on the list.
