[-■4 ' ' V . The City Council on Thursday evening ' decided by a large majority to endorse its previous decision to let the slaughter- . ing work at the city abattoir by contract. A motion to rescind the decision, moved by Mr. J. R. Lundon and seconded vby Mr. W. H. Murray, was defeated, only five voting in favour. The Auckland Provincial Master Butchers' Union wrote approving the decision of the council in calling for tenders for the slaughtering, but they Btated that they considered the bond of | £200 demanded from successful ten-' derers was too high, and might prevent eome desirable contractors from tendering* ,/ On the motion of ifjhe Mayor, Mr. Geo. Baildon, it was agreed to refer the matter to the Markets and Stores Committee. That there is a difference of opinion among the tradesmen at the abattoirs was shown by an entry on the order [paper. Two deputations, one numbering 24 and the other 27, requested permission jto place their views before the council. , , The Mayor said he had not seen his way clear to grant permission for two deputations, representing different points of view, to appear before the council. He moved that the matter be referred to the Markets and Stores Committee, who should interview two representatives from each deputation. Mr. T. Bloodworth said the council Jtfiould negotiate exclusively with the Slaughtermen's Union, and not with any groups of men. A motion to this effect Was seconded by Mr. E. J.
