NEWMARKET'S NEW SERGEANT
FAREWELLS IN WANGANUI. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, this day. Before his departure for Auckland where he has been promoted to the charge of the Newmarket police station Sergeant E. Finch, who has been 13 years in Wanganui, was farewelled by the police force and presented with a gold watch and also gifts for his wife and family. . . Inspector Till eulogised the ™ork °I the departing officer, and said he had carried out his duties with marked ability While in Wanganui he had won the esteem of his colleagues, and he (the speaker) was sure he would carry out his new duties in the same efficient manner. Inspector Till wished him every success for the future. Senior Sergeant McLean voiced regret at losing the services of such a capable officer as Sergeant Finch, and said the promotion was well deserved. Detective J. Walsh endorsed the remarks of the other officers. While in Wanganui Sergeant Finch has taken an active part in sport.
