BASKETBALL.
AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. There were fewer teams playing basketball in Auckland during the 1929 season than in , 1928, according to the report presented at the Auckland Basketball Association's annual meeting last evening. The decrease was accounted for by the withdrawal of the interhouse club teams, which had decided to organise their own competitions. The 1929 New Zealand tournament, the report stated, was held in Christchurch from August 28 to 31, twelve teams taking part. The Auckland team again won the tournament, Miss Jean Mueller, the Auckland captain, being presented with a trophy given by Dr. Thacker, of Christchurch, for the most outstanding player. During the year matches were arranged with teams from Awanui and Thames, Auckland Avinning in each case. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £75 8/10, the actual profit on the year being £3 17/6. The following officers were elected:— President, Miss Lee; vice-presidents, Misses M. Adams, C. MacFarlane, M. Miles; secretary, Miss J. Nagle; assistant secretary, Miss J. Dacre; hon. treasurer, Miss T. Ogilvie; hon. auditor, Mr. G. T. Lee. Owing to the expense the advisability of rejoining the New Zealand Basketball Association was queried, but it was finally decided to rejoin.
